Liver and Digestive Disease Center (LDDC) is proud to have been represented at the World Hepatitis Summit 2026, organized by the World Hepatitis Alliance and held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 28–30 April 2026.

Representing LDDC at the summit were our hepatology specialists, Dr. Pukar Thapa and Dr. Rupesh Shrestha, alongside our Managing Director, Raunak Baskota.

The summit brought together healthcare professionals, researchers, policymakers, patient advocates, and global health leaders from around the world with a shared objective: accelerating progress toward the elimination of viral hepatitis as a public health threat.

A Global Call for Action

The theme of this year's summit,

“Elimination for Everyone, Everywhere, Right Now!”

served as a powerful reminder that despite significant advances in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, millions of people worldwide continue to live with undiagnosed or untreated hepatitis.

The summit emphasized the need for:

  • Expanding access to hepatitis screening and diagnosis
  • Improving linkage to care and treatment services
  • Strengthening public awareness and health education
  • Reducing disparities in healthcare access
  • Accelerating progress toward global hepatitis elimination targets

Experts from governments, international organizations, academic institutions, and healthcare systems shared successful strategies and innovative approaches that can help countries move closer to achieving hepatitis elimination goals.

Why Hepatitis Remains a Critical Health Challenge

Viral hepatitis remains one of the leading causes of liver cirrhosis, liver failure, and liver cancer worldwide.

Many patients remain unaware of their infection for years because hepatitis often progresses silently without noticeable symptoms. As a result, diagnosis frequently occurs only after significant liver damage has already developed.

Early detection and timely treatment can dramatically reduce complications and improve long-term outcomes.

This reality underscores the importance of strengthening awareness, expanding access to testing, and ensuring that patients receive appropriate specialist care at the earliest possible stage.

Learning from Global Best Practices

The World Hepatitis Summit provided an opportunity to learn from international experiences in hepatitis prevention, screening, treatment, and public health policy.

Discussions covered a wide range of topics, including:

  • Advances in hepatitis B and hepatitis C management
  • Strategies for increasing screening coverage
  • Community-based approaches to hepatitis elimination
  • Innovations in healthcare delivery and patient engagement
  • Integrating liver health services into broader healthcare systems
  • Global progress toward World Health Organization elimination targets

By participating in these discussions, LDDC clinicians gained valuable insights into emerging trends and best practices from around the world.

Strengthening Liver Care in Nepal

At LDDC, we believe that delivering high-quality patient care requires continuous learning and engagement with the global medical community.

Participation in international forums such as the World Hepatitis Summit enables our team to stay informed about the latest scientific developments, treatment approaches, and public health strategies in hepatology.

The knowledge gained from these interactions helps strengthen our efforts to provide evidence-based liver care to patients in Nepal while contributing to broader conversations about improving liver health outcomes nationwide.
